Protecting your Modular Home from Water Damage

Water damage can lead to future problems that will cost a lot of money on your end. Start early within your modular home to start protecting against mold or water damage. Below are a few tips to help you out.

3 Tips to Protect Your Home from Water Damage

  1. Inspect hoses and faucets

Check hoses and faucets for cracks or wear. If you find any water leakage, turn the water main off and dry the spot so that you can change the hose or piping. You should replace hoses every 5 years, even if there are no problems, just to be safe.

  1. Shower caulking

Be sure to inspect the caulking in your shower and bathtubs as well. Ensure that the seal is tight and no water can get behind it or that any moisture is collecting in corners. The water collection could lead to mold growth in your home, which can cause further damage or even health issues. When home building, make sure that the contractor creates a tight seal to start with.

  1. Check your roof often

Most times, modular homes can be fixed easily when needed. Any missing or damaged shingles that go unnoticed can lead to problems with water and rain. Mold will grow quickly and can eventually destroy your roof, causing you to need a new one. That expense is avoidable if you are proactive in checking your home for any possible damages. Once again, when building make sure it’s done right the first time.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask a local contractor. Just remember that being proactive in your prevention can help save you a lot of stress and money down the road. Water damage can escalate quickly but is easy to keep it under control.
